Preserving Wealth Through Generations

Michelle L. Hoesly – CLU, ChFC, MSFS, CPC

Looking at investment charts and calculating new strategies is like breathing air to me. I am passionate about using all of my tools and data to design solutions so my clients can enjoy their lives and work on the things they love. My husband teases me that I’d rather be looking at my charts in the evening than going out to a party. Part of being able to visualize great solutions is to stay informed about not just the technical details of the investment world, but the context of our global economy and how those pieces potentially impact your individual holdings. To do that, I am on a constant learning journey. You’ll see from my bio that my education not only involves several graduate degrees, but also a great deal of diverse education and global interaction, which helps me understand competing views and insight into economies where we may invest. I’ve never been one to accept the status quo. When traditional retirement plans were the norm, we put in one of the first 401(k) plans in our area. Before tactical money management even had a name, we were utilizing strategies to help protect downside risk by moving out of some holdings as risk increased. Before hybrid management was touted as the ‘new’ thing, we were managing portfolios using low cost index funds partnered with well managed active portfolios.

Every day I wake up full of energy looking for ways I can do an even better job for you, my client. The prospect of helping you see your financial opportunities, protect you from harsh financial risks and put it all in a customized, well-tended and evolving solution, is the most exhilarating career I can imagine. I am blessed to have the best people on our team, and to have clients who love their families, love their work and are also trying to make a positive difference in the world.

Moving to Virginia to join Resource 1 in 2006 was a game changer in my life. It was quickly apparent that in order to keep up with Micki I needed to further my education, so my focus became attaining my master’s degree in Financial Services and completing several professional designations. Now, Micki will come to me for technical answers, which is a bit of a turnaround I really enjoy! My real passion is helping my clients simplify their multifaceted financial challenges. Oftentimes, understanding your insurance and investments can feel like trying to comprehend a foreign language. I love translating it for people and making it understandable, whether working with an individual or a large corporate client.

Fortunate to learn from some of the best advisors in financial services, I have also found ways to give back. Having been chosen to speak to several large groups of advisors, I not only am able to share our practice ideas, but also learn some great strategies to implement for our clients. Early in my career, I was invited to join the Heritage Group, a national study group comprised of advisors who are in family businesses and are dedicated to continuous learning. This study group has allowed me to bring many innovative ideas to our practice to benefit our clients.

A lot has changed since first moving to Virginia. I married Megan, a Southern girl from Charlotte, NC, so moving back to Wisconsin is definitely out of the picture – way too cold up there for her! We have 2 beautiful daughters, Ruby and Evelyn. If any of you have recently looked at the cost of college and weddings, you know that my girls will keep me working for a long time. This means that not only can I help you develop a plan to get to retirement, but I will be here to make sure you are taken care of throughout your retirement as well.

Sara Galvin – Office Manager

Born in Norfolk, raised in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake, I am a Coastal Virginia flip flop wearing native, but that has not stopped me from exploring what our diverse world has to offer. My flip flops have carried me across the U.S., to parts of Europe, Canada, and the Caribbean. I hope to visit Japan in the next several years.

While I have always been an apt student, my studies in college ignited a voracious appetite for learning, and I am grateful to be living in the Information Age where the answers to my questions are just an internet search away, pending source review and bias analysis, of course!

Through my experience, I have learned that the only acceptable “cookie-cutter” approach to keeping clients satisfied is consistent, informative service and attention to detail.
As the newest addition to the Resource 1, Inc. team, I plan to continue learning from the best in the business, provide excellent customer service, and work with my team to meet, perhaps even surpass, our goals.
